Jeremy Ten Injured, Receiving Ankle Surgery (Again)

Image

On his (less public) Facebook he posted about exactly what went down. Just months after receiving surgery for persistent pain in his right ankle, he has fractured his left ankle practicing a maneuver he describes as "a twizzle into a landing stretch." He goes on to add that "Twizzles are fuckin dangerous. Never going to poke fun at dancers ever again" and calls it a "freak accident."

He's set to receive surgery on his left ankle sometime today.

He's obviously not made any statement yet about next season, but it seems like he's planning to be out for most of the summer, at least. About the future, he posted: "Not too sure just trying to focus on the now..."

Joey Russell announces retirement from competitive skating

Canadian senior bronze medalist, world team member, and long-time provincial team member Joey Russell has decided to retire from competitive skating. Joey has asked us to post the following letter on the web site.

Dear Skate Canada Newfoundland and Labrador,
I’m writing this letter to recognize my appreciation for my home province. I have decided to end my competitive career and move forward with other endeavours. I would like to say thank you to the people who have supported me along the way:
To the Volunteers,
I am forever indebted to you. Without you, none of my experiences would have come to life. I have alway found comfort in your sincere smiles and kind words whenever I felt nervous or tense. For a skater, it is lovely to have people around you who are there for you and show up because they truly love figure skating. I will always be involved in the skating world and I hope to pass on your positive energy.
To the Coaches,
Whenever I go home to Newfoundland and Labrador I see the amazing light-hearted but hard working relationship you have with your skaters. This attitude, from my own coaches, and those around me, has made me the skater and the person that I am to day. I believe, your dedication translates to skaters each day and made the rink a place I looked forward to going to. I wish you all good luck.
To the Skaters,
I was not always sure of my ability as a skater. I worked hard, but found trouble believing that someone from Newfoundland and Labrador was talented enough to achieve greatness in the sport. I am from Newfoundland and Labrador through and through and I am so proud of that, but I had to change my mindset to that of a National and World level skater. Know that anything is possible in this sport of upsets, surprises and excitement. I hope after all is said and done, that I have opened the door for you and given you confidence like that of a future Olympic Champion. I can’t wait to follow your success and I wish you all the best.
To my Supporters both in the skating world and out,
You are what helped me through some of my hardest days at the rink. Knowing that I was representing a whole province was sometimes all I needed. To go home and hear the kindest, sweetest words, in an accent I so dearly missed, was the ultimate prize. It was my goal to make each Newfoundlander and Labradorian proud of figure skating in this province. Please pass on your overwhelming support to the future stars of our province so that they may feel the pride as I do.
A special thank you to my family for their sacrifices and unwavering support of everyone of my decisions. To Bev Power, Betty and Lori Brett and my home club of Polaris. I hope that I have adequately shared each success with you and made you proud because I know you have been rooting for me since day one, and I am so grateful.
Thank you,
Joey

Skate Canada Newfoundland and Labrador wishes Joey Russell all the best on his retirement from competitive skating. His accomplishments including competing at the 2011 World Championships and the 2007 World Junior Championships were firsts in our Section. We proudly remember Joey’s Bronze medal winning performance in the Senior Men’s event at the 2011 Canadian Championships and his 2006 Canadian Junior Men’s title. Joey dreamed big and worked hard to make his skating dreams a reality, while being a great ambassador for skating in Newfoundland and Labrador. If you wish to send Joey a message you may do so through skatecanadanlteam@gmail.com

Coaching changes seem to be the name of the game this off-season.

French star Florent Amodio has left Russia and will make Colorado Springs his new training base. He will train with Tom Zakrajsek.

news update from IFS Japanese correspondent Junko Kanamaru:

Nobunari Oda tweeted that he had a medical checkup on his left knee on May 31st (today). His doctor said that he is recovering nicely from his injury (partial tear of the lingament), and allowed him to resume on-ice training starting tomorrow.

Daisuke Takahashi was a panelist at a seminar on sports injuries in Kyoto on May 29. He spoke about the injury he had in 2008 and the support of his doctors and physical trainer during rehab.
He said he was relieved to have the screw finally out of his right knee, and will resume training by the end of June. He had surgery on May 19 and was released from hospital on May 27.

Nobunari Oda tweeted he's leaving for Montreal today, now that his knee has recovered.

Daisuke Murakami also tweeted he's going to Toronto to have his free program choreographed.

официальный сайт Сергея Воронова

http://sergeivoronov.com/news/2011_05_31/2011-05-31-3

Two-time Russian champion Sergei Voronov has given an interview to his official website to share his impressions of the group at the American Hackensack rink, where there are now many of the students of Nikolai Morozov. In particular, the Russian skater has admitted that the increasing number of his compatriots in the group of the renowned coach is making him feel much more at ease. At the moment, the skater and the coach are working on the production of a new short program. Work on the free will begin next month.

"A year ago, for me everything was new, everything had to be used, but still I was the only Russian in Morozov's group", - he said. - Now, our team is greatly "Russified", I have someone to communicate with in our native language. More Besides, now I'm helping all our newcomers to adapt to the U,S, as well as boys-greenhouse from a group of Nina Moser, who came with us on setting fees for programs at Nikolai Morozov. Now we are waiting to join us Alena Leonova and dancers Elena Ilinykh Nikita Katsalapov. In Novogorsk when all three were just beginning to work in our group, Alena and I had fun trying to execute the elements of dance in a duet. Morozov even said that he will transfer us to dance. But in general it would be interesting to try make such a show program - like Baiul and Petrenko's famous rock and roll program!

From Artur Gachinski's English fansite :mi_ga_et:

http://arturgachinski.webs.com/apps/blo ... w-programs

Thanks for Vkontakte group, we can know that apparently these are the songs that Artur's using for his new programs (probably the ones at Sochi?)

1.Perez Prado-Tico Tico (It's a cheerful jazz, very different from Artur's 2010-2011 programs).
Youtube link to the music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXBj-TV7LZ4

2.Maksim Mrvica - Croatian Rhapsody (very, very sweet and lyrical ! I love it).
Youtube link to the music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3CdKrA3viNw

3.Michel Legrand-Windmills of your mind (Sad, romantic and lyrical music).
Youtube link to the music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqs8El5W ... re=related

4.Joe Satriani-All alone (rock and roll ballad. One of my favourites).
Youtube link to the music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FYL9LyNx ... ure=fvwrel

5.Joe Satriani-Always me always with you (another wonderful rock song !)
Youtube link to the music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F4fPv450OYM

6.Saint Saes-Danse Macabre (I'm sure it's for his Long Program. Amazing violin music)
Youtube link to the music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gr1Ug0uDtZg

7.Slade-My Oh my (I just plain ADORE this song !!! Probably for Galas and Exhibitions).

#1 would be perfect for his character and his ability to express the funny music. Will go good for the exhibition, or even for SP.

#2 is overused in FS I think. And #3 is a little too sad for a teen man. #7 has no bright character, a kind of too trivial.

#6 is classic that almost always works.

My favorite is #4 and #5. Suits him perfectly. I just see the character of a young man who is enjoying the rock. That ROCKS!!! :co_ol: Pardon if it sounds too trivial. :-):

Johnny Weir: A Note to My Fans

JUN
14
To my fans,

I want to formally announce that I will not compete in the upcoming season. I have dreamt of returning to competition for the upcoming season, but due to many obligations in my professional life, I will not be able to devote enough time to my training and my representation of the United States in international competition.

I realize that a huge percentage of my fan base is awaiting my return to the competitive ice and I beg your pardon for not fulfilling your wishes this year. I do not want any of my fans to lose hope as I am still on the ice, still training hard whenever my schedule permits. I still have a very competitive attitude, and after one more year off the competitive ice, I hope to return, and my team and I are already taking a very rigid approach to my schedule in 2012 so that I will have proper time to train for the figure skating high season.

I have had many big successes in my professional life since my performance at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, and I continue to strive for perfection in every aspect of my public life. I wake up every day and go to sleep every night hoping that I’ve made my fans around the world proud with whatever I am doing, whether it’s a skating show, a public appearance, or a new episode of my TV show. I would be nothing without my thousands of fans around the world, and I hope I can continue to make you proud. I will be back on the ice, competing for you, very soon.

In the meantime, my fans can look forward to my collaborations with MAC cosmetics and eDressMe.com; “Spectacular,” an ice concert I am creating for this fall; a new season of my hit reality show, Be Good Johnny Weir, on Logo; and of course skating around the world in exhibition performances.

I’d like to thank my many fans across the globe for your continued support and faith in me. No matter what, my eyes are still firmly fixed on Sochi and the 2014 Olympic Games.

Thank you.

Johnny G. Weir

Javier Fernández left Morozov to train with Orser

He confirmed that this summer will begin training with Canadian Brian Orser.
For now, they will test and if they conform well to each other, they will permanently.
The second week of July, Javier plans to attend a summer camp in that country.
