Sui and Han win prelims to kick off World Championshipshttp://www.examiner.com/figure-skating- ... mpionshipsThe World Figure Skating Championships began today with the preliminary round for pairs. As expected, it was Four Continents champions Wenjing Sui and Cong Han who easily won the round, which consisted of each pair competing one program, a free skate.
Sui and Han did not attempt their throw quad salchow, opting instead for a throw triple salchow. Sui fell on her solo triple toe and they had a messy quad twist, but they still comfortably sailed through the preliminary round with a score of 116.57. Home team Vanessa James and Morgan Cipres took second with a 96.48.
The top eight pairs move on to join the 12 pairs who received direct entries into the short program. The pairs’ short program takes place on Wednesday.
