Less than two hours after Yanovskaya/Mozgov's win in the Ice Dance competition, fellow countrywoman and outstanding favourite Elizaveta Tuktamisheva finished first in Ladies' Figure Skating!

The Skate Canada and Trophée Eric Bompard winner received a total score of 173,10 points for her stunning performance! Adelina Sotnikova (159,08pts) and Zijun Li (CHN/157,70pts) complete the podium!

It has been almost two years since Elizaveta Tuktamisheva’s last win over teammate Adelina Sotnikova, and she was able to pull it off today at the Winter Youth Olympic Games in solid fashion, beating her teammate by 14 points to take the gold. Her win comes less than a month after a disappointing Russian Championships, where she placed sixth to Sotnikova’s first. Her win gave Russian two gold medals today, a few hours after Anna Yanovskaya and Sergey Mozgov took gold in ice dance.

Though she was not flawless, Tuktamisheva put down a strong free skate that opened with her trademark triple lutz-triple toe combination. A fall on the triple flip and a singled double axel did not prevent her from extending the lead that she had after the short program. Her final score of 173.10 was good enough for the gold and the first time since the Russia Junior Championships in 2010 that she finished ahead of Sotnikova in competition.

Second after the short program, Sotnikova, the defending World junior champion, actually lost ground to China’s Zijun Li in the free skate. Li hit five clean triples to finish second in the free skate but could not overtake Sotnikova for the silver. Sotnikova made a number of errors in her free skate, singling two triples and landing three clean triples. But she was able to edge Li for the silver medal by just over a point.

Tuktamisheva and Sotnikova gave Russia their sixth and seventh medals of the competition. Li’s bronze was China’s third medal in Innsbruck, a day after Han Yan won the men’s event and Xiaoyu Yu and Yang Jin took the pairs’ title.

American Jordan Bauth finished seventh. Figure skating at the Winter Youth Games will continue on Saturday with the mixed team events.
