WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS IN NICE - N.PECHALAT / F.BOURZAT PARTICIPATION UNCERTAIN

While training intensively in Detroit (USA) for the World Championships, which start in Nice in 12 days, Nathalie PECHALAT was seriously injured yesterday. The doctors diagnosed she had broken her nose while skating the final sequence of their free programme.

“This is a real catastrophe… We are really in great form and our goal is to become world champions in Nice, in our own country! The impact was violent and painful. There was a lot of bleeding and I was very scared, even more so when the doctors talked about a bad fracture.”

Nathalie will continue with an adjusted training programme given the seriousness of her injury and until she is operated on Thursday morning. The two-time European champions’ participation in Nice (26 March - 1 April) is uncertain. However their determination remains intact.

В Ниццу без Плющенко

Ксения Макарова вошла в состав сборной России, которая готовится к выступлению на чемпионате мира в Ницце, сообщил президент Федерации фигурного катания нашей страны Александр Горшков.

Руководство отечественного фигурного катания допускало вариант замены Макаровой, неудачно выступавшей в первой половине сезона, на Полину Шелепень. Однако фигуристку, отобравшуюся в сборную по итогам чемпионата России, было решено не менять. Также в женском одиночном катании в Ницце выступят Алена Леонова и Полина Коробейникова.

В парном катании на чемпионате мира от России поедут Юко Кавагути/Александр Смирнов, пропускавшие континентальное первенство из-за последствий операции по удалению аппендикса у партнера. Также в команде новоиспеченные чемпионы Европы Татьяна Волосожар/Максим Траньков и Вера Базарова/Юрий Ларионов.

В танцах на льду изменений по сравнению с чемпионатом Европы не произошло: Россию на мировом первенстве представят Екатерина Боброва/Дмитрий Соловьев, Елена Ильиных/Никита Кацалапов и Екатерина Рязанова/Илья Ткаченко.

В мужском одиночном катании наша команда представлена двумя фигуристами. Так как девятикратный чемпион России Евгений Плющенко в настоящий момент занимается лечением травмы колена, во Францию поедут бронзовый призер московского ЧМ-2011 и серебряный медалист ЧЕ-2012 в Шеффилде Артур Гачинский, а также Сергей Воронов.

Чемпионат мира в Ницце пройдет с 26 марта по 1 апреля.

Via a Facebook post http://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?s ... 1962471187, Pechalat and Bourzat said that, advised by a specialist, they will postpone surgery for Pechalat's nose until after the World Championships, as surgery would make it more complicated to train.
Pechalat will be wearing a mask to protect her nose from further injury. Still, no final decision has been made about their participation at Worlds.

OPERATION POSTPONED FOR N.PECHALAT

Nathalie PECHALAT broke her nose on Tuesday 13 March in Detroit (USA) during their preparation for the World Championships in Nice and a specialist surgeon has examined her. It was decided she would not have the operation for the moment.

« The specialist recommended to postpone the operation until after Worlds, as it would cause breathing difficulties, bleeding and extra pain, which are incompatible with the preparation for a high-level competition. I started wearing a support mask today, to protect my nose from the pain caused by movements, vibrations and cold air. Fabian and I are motivated and stand together: this is an extra ordeal we have to overcome together.»

Despite the pain and a bruise that has spread to her left eye, Nathalie continues with an adjusted training programme, wearing a mask specially made for her. No decision has yet been made regarding the participation of the two-time European champions in Nice (26 March / 1 April).

Korpi withdraws from worlds, cites leg problems
European silver medalist ailing from foot, hip injuries

(03/16/2012) - Three-time European medalist Kiira Korpi of Finland has withdrawn from the 2012 World Figure Skating Championships because of lingering foot and hip injuries, the Finnish Figure Skating Association (FFSA) announced Friday.

Coach Maaret Siromaa said (translated from Finnish): "The decision to withdraw from worlds has been a very tough one, and we all are sad about the situation. It was the main goal for the season, but there was absolutely no other choice. Now we will focus on the rehabilitation of Kiira's leg for the future."

Korpi injured her left foot last summer, causing her to withdraw from the 2011 Japan Open and the 2011 Finlandia Trophy. She recovered enough to win her third Finnish title in December and the silver at the European Championships in January, despite hurting her upper leg a few weeks before the competition.
After Europeans, the pain persisted, spreading to her hip and foot and greatly restricting the skater's training for the upcoming world championships.

Alisa Mikonsaari will take Korpi's place at worlds.

Du 29 mars au 1er avril, ce sont les championnats du monde de patinage artistique, à Nice. Il y aura, à cette occasion, 4 rendez-vous sur les chaînes de France Télévisions :

Jeudi 29 mars à partir de 23h sur France 3:
le programme libre danse où les chances de médailles sont fortes pour les doubles Champions d’Europe en titre, les français Nathalie Péchalat et Fabian Bourzat.

Vendredi 30 mars à 15h en direct sur France 3:
le programme court hommes.

Samedi 31 mars à 14h50 en direct sur FRANCE 2:
le programme libre hommes où nos patineurs, Florent Amodio et Brian Joubert, auront 4 minutes et 30 secondes pour prouver leur rang mondial et défier les plus grands patineurs.

Dimanche 1er avril à partir de 16h35 sur France 3:
le gala de clôture en présence des meilleurs patineurs de la compétition et des médaillés.

Tout au long de ces Championnats, les commentaires seront assurés par Nelson Monfort, Philippe Candeloro et Annick Dumont.
