Yeah, Plush has nothing left to prove. He is the most successful singles skater in post-war figure skating history (and we all know no singles skater save Plush has the longevity of a pairs skater).

I'm on the "too soon to say" camp for now. I just hope, if Plush returns, it will be because he sincerely wants to for himself and his fans, not to "show" the stupid hostile journalists. Completely horrendous reporting and a shame to the profession.

Anyway, let's wait to see what Plush himself says. His agent also said he'll stop competing after Vancouver iirc, and we know where that went.

I think Plush just really didn't want his competitive life to end the way it did. At the same time, it was almost... inevitable. Plush is so driven and determined that he'll keep going until he can go no further... and now it seems he'll still keep going. Maybe, he just wants his final competition to be something more than a "WD," in which case he'll compete for one more season, get a rematch with the young'uns, and be done with 2015 Worlds. I don't think he'll be too competitive if everyone else skates clean (too many things to relearn/unlearn with the COP system), but he can sneak in for a medal if others fall over.

...surely he isn't thinking of going until 2018? That would simply be insane. However, I admit a tiny part of me wants to see it. It doesn't matter if he's quadless by then and comes in 18th. Just attending a fifth Olympics would be a record. And if they tweak the judging system by then: namely, make combinations more valuable and punish falls harder... But it's a real bad idea health-wise.

Как и lala, я считаю, что это не очень хорошая идея. Или Женя хочет кому-то что-то доказать (зачем???) или он просто рад, что его избавили от металла в позвоночнике и психологически, на радостях, готов выступать дальше, или.....
Конечно, я буду счастлива увидеть Плющенко на льду, смотреть в российском мужском катании больше не на кого. Но сама мысль, что он ещё что-то должен, мне очень не нравится.

In last year he begun to train in april he stepped on the ice in may, he landed in his first triplas end of june, he landed in the first 3A July, he landed in first quad in auguste. He wasn't ready to COR, and the Rus Nat!!! He will start his traning in 16 june. Я думаю, Женя очень переживает за снятие в индивидуальных соревнованиях на ОИ . И как все это было раздуто в
СМИ с помощью противоположного лагеря ( вместо того, чтобы поддержать спортсмена ). И ему, видимо ,
не хочется так завершать карьеру. И еще я думаю, он очень рад, что нет металла в позвоночнике ( и мы вместе с ним рады), и теперь почувствовал себя здоровым человеком. Правильно девочки пишут, что еще рано говорить как все получится.
Здоровье, конечно, самое главное. Я думаю, рисковать сейчас не следует и уверена, никто не будет.
Короче, поживем-увидим.А я была бы счастлива,если бы у Жени была возможность еще какое-то время быть в спорте.

Заслуженный тренер России наставник Евгения Плющенко Алексей Мишин рассказал Sportbox.ru о планах своего подопечного на новый сезон.
— Евгений попал в предварительный список кандидатов в сборную. Он действительно собирается выступать в следующем сезоне, несмотря на проблемы со здоровьем?
- Пока мы собираемся постепенно набрать форму. А по результатам тренировок уже будем смотреть, сможет ли Евгений выступать. С 1 июня приступим к пробным занятиям. А 16-го поедем на сборы в Италию.
— Как сейчас чувствует себя Плющенко?
- Самочувствие у него хорошее. Он уже играет в гольф. И даже выигрывает.

I think we will have to just wait and see, and take things one step at a time. After all, he hasn't even stepped on ice yet. He has always emphasized that he wants to compete with dignity, and I think it will depend very much on his condition.

I do think that Evgeni is going to try to do this because it is important to him, in a way that perhaps we cannot quite 100% understand. I know that I do not. I think it is important for me--just myself personally--to acknowledge that there are some things about him that I cannot understand. I also cannot say that I'm not frightened about this, but well, Evgeni knows the chances and risks better than anyone else. After all, I think nothing is determined yet...We will just have to wait and see.

While I'll laugh my face off if Plush returns and wins everything, I still share Lala's worry about his health. Better to be healthy and retired than (more) decorated but in a wheelchair.

Let me put it this way: I think if Plush were offered a Faustian deal in Sochi--that he could win the gold medal in individuals, but wouldn't be able to skate at all for the rest of his life... I don't think he would take the deal. And if he does, he'll likely regret it. Even more than competing, I think Plush just loves skating. I'm worried if he makes a decision that could potentially rob him of that. Of course, I'm sure he's calculated the risks and there's no way I should be "policing" his life. I just hope, if he continues competing, it's because he loves it and not because he feels "pressured" into it.
